Description

Why do classics remain with us even after so many years? Perhaps because they preserve the enduring patterns and essence of life, no matter how much the world changes. The Treasure House World Classics series finds hidden gems from around the world and introduces them to readers alongside classics that our parents and generations before them have continually read. Aesop’s Fables has now been published in the series. Used widely in elementary Korean language textbooks and in materials for children’s character education and relationship development, Aesop’s Fables is full of essential philosophies of life that remain relevant 2,500 years later. It satirizes common human situations by comparing them to animals or natural events, allowing us to see them objectively. Aesop’s Fables is also included in the Harvard Classics, a list of essential reading for Harvard students in the United States, and is well worth reading not only for children but also for adults who want to build their knowledge of the humanities. More than 500 of Aesop’s fables have been compiled after years of research. This edition selects and presents 200 fables containing knowledge useful to young readers. It also includes information about Aesop’s life and other background on the fables. The Treasure House World Classics edition adds an appendix, photographs, and other abundant materials to help readers build a deeper understanding. The wisdom and philosophy of Aesop, the sage who rose from slavery to become a royal adviser: ‘United, we stand; divided, we fall.’ ‘Heaven helps those who help themselves.’

I bought this to read and talk to my baby before birth. The content is substantial, and it brought back good memories of reading it as a child. It's a very informative book.

Aesop’s original name was Aisopos; ‘Aesop’ is the English pronunciation. The original Aesop’s Fables laid bare the harsh reality of a world where the strong prey on the weak, and they were somewhat rough and cruel (from the preface). I have read that Andersen’s fairy tales were originally so brutal and frightening that they hardly seemed like fairy tales. Aesop was an ancient Greek who lived around the sixth century BCE and somehow escaped slavery. Reality must have included many things even

Aesop’s Fables are fables written by a man named Aesop. Aesop was an ancient Greek who lived around the sixth century BCE. Although his works are known around the world, little is known about his life. What is a fable? A dictionary defines it as a story in which personified animals, plants, or other things are the main characters and their actions express satire and a lesson. Famous fables include Aesop’s Fables and George Orwell’s Animal Farm, as well as the Korean works The Tale of the Rabbit

Many children grow up with Aesop’s Fables. I did, too, and now I am in my fifties. I wondered what it would feel like to reread the fables I had read over and over as a child at this stage of life. I felt that anticipation as I read Aesop’s Fables in the Treasure House (Blue Books) World Classics series. Above all, I was glad to meet stories that I still remembered after all this time—the stories that make you think, ‘Yes, this is the one I think of when I hear Aesop’s Fables.’ But there were

Almost everyone has read Aesop’s Fables at least once as a child. I did, too, but I could recall only a few of the stories. This time I had the chance to read many different fables and learned a lot about Aesop, the author, that I had not known. First, his original name was Aisopos; because the name comes from an ancient Greek word meaning Ethiopian, one can infer that he may have been African. I was interested to learn that Aesop was once enslaved, then freed and traveled to different regions

A Stroll Through World Classics for Children and Adults (Treasure House World Classics) — The wisdom of life passed down for 2,500 years. Our old stories and classics are worth returning to even after a long time. Aesop’s Fables was a required book when I was young, and it is one of the required books I have recommended to my own children. The world has changed and advanced greatly, transforming our convenient lives beyond imagination, but classics that teach the wisdom of life and the

I love the Treasure House World Classics series. A few months ago, I read Treasure House's Jekyll Box and Hyde and enjoyed it so much that I read it three times in a row. The series has a distinctive style that keeps me looking for each new release. Aesop's Fables is as old as its name suggests, but I never had a chance to read it as a child. My parents bought me only a natural history encyclopedia and biographies of great people. Maybe that's why, as an adult, I seek out books I should have

Aesop’s Fables has been published in a hardcover edition. It is a classic we have all encountered, yet each rereading brings fresh and profound insight. The moment I saw the cover, vivid memories of reading it as a child came back. The animals on the cover are familiar, but their stories feel different now that I am an adult. The cover features distinctively drawn, personified animals—foxes, turtles, rabbits, mice, and more. Just seeing the picture brings the stories to mind and reminds me

A fable is a story in which personified animals, plants, or other things are the main characters, and their actions convey satire and a lesson. Aesop’s Fables is a title I have encountered often since childhood. The stories in this book feature animals that talk and act like people; they offer unexpected insights that make you think ‘Aha!’ and make you laugh at foolish animal behavior. In the introductory notes, I learned that Aesop was an ancient Greek who lived around the sixth century BCE

It was a precious opportunity to properly discover the timeless classic Aesop’s Fables, which personifies such familiar animals as rabbits, mice, turtles, cranes, crows, lions, foxes, wolves, and even ants. I had heard the name Aesop and assumed he was a medieval European, so I was surprised to learn in this book when he lived and what his Greek name was. He was very different from the image I had in mind. This book contains 200 fables traditionally attributed to the legendary Aesop. Stories
