I enjoyed the classical literature lecture so much that I decided to purchase the book. It wasn't very long, so I read it quickly; however, reading it while recalling what I heard in the lecture made it even more interesting, and there were many parts that gave me food for thought.
It is said to be the only trilogy in Greek tragedy, consisting of *Agamemnon*, *The Libation Bearers*, and *The Merciful*. Overall, the work is structured as a conflict between Agamemnon, his son Orestes, his daughter Electra, Apollo, Athena, and Hermes, versus Agamemnon's wife Clytemnestra, his cousin and distant relative Aegisthus, (whose daughter Iphigenia is deceased), and the goddesses of vengeance. I would like to thank Mr. Kim Ki-young for his fresh translation of this tragic masterpiece. It was truly fascinating to listen to his delightful lectures on tragedy. In this era where stories are precious, this is a book that makes us reflect on humanity. I highly recommend it.
Aeschylus: Oresteia Trilogy
The *Oresteia Trilogy*, performed at the Great Dionysian Festival in 458 BC and winning the 13th victory, is regarded as Aeschylus's greatest masterpiece. The narrative types found in the *Oresteia Trilogy* are those that are repeated and varied not only in traditional mythology but also within the genre of tragedy. These narrative types refer to homecoming, discovery, stratagem, revenge, sacrifice, banishment, supplication, and salvation. The plot of the *Oresteia Trilogy* is constructed by the combination of these types. The principles of reversal and inversion play the most significant role here. The conqueror becomes the defeated, the one who uses stratagem falls victim to stratagem, the one who sacrifices becomes the sacrificial offering, the one who takes revenge is avenged, and the one who supplicates becomes the one who is saved.
